Bonfire

A Time for Wisdom

As we look forward to our joint Bonfire Pentecost Celebration on May 23 at 10:00 a.m. at Cooper High School Auditorium, I can’t help but say, “I have never so looked forward to celebrating Pentecost as I have this year!”

In his introduction to Acts, Eugene Peterson, author of The Message says, “The story of Jesus doesn’t end with Jesus. It continues in the lives of those who love him. The supernatural does not stop with Jesus. Luke makes in clear that these Christians he wrote about were no more spectators of Jesus than Jesus was a spectator of God—they are in on the action of God, God acting in them, God living in them. Which also means, of course, in us.”

They were all together in one place when the Feast of Pentecost came. We, too, will be together, at one worship service and at one place! And the promised wind will be breathed into us, the Holy Spirit will spread throughout our assembly like wildfire, and we will more deeply understand and be understood in God’s persistent and renewing vocabulary of life.

I invite your prayers. I invite you to let go of your doubts and believe. Come and worship, bring a new neighbor or an old friend….this is the renewal we all need! This is Pentecost 2010 and God is aiming to take the next step with all of us.

With great anticipation!
