Nigeria Trip Postponed
Because of financial considerations and concerns surrounding the conditions in Nigeria, the Global
Missions Task Force has decided to postpone the fall 2010 Minneapolis Area Synod Nigeria trip. The decision to wait until a later date will allow us to explore other options as Compatible Technology and public health and education initiatives that may benefit our partnership. In the meantime, we are investigating ways to improve our communication with the Mubi church. We plan to send representatives to Nigeria in 2011 to renew our partnership with LCCN #1 Mubi. Thank you for your support!
Health Kits
Barb and Stan Tvedt delivered quilts, health kits, and bars of soap to the Lutheran World Relief warehouse in South St. Paul in March. Due to the great need at this time, we will extend our collection of health kit items through April and deliver finished kits to the warehouse in May.
Items needed for each kit: a dark colored hand towel, a dark colored wash cloth, tooth brush, nail clipper with file, a large tooth comb, and a bar of soap. We have lots of Band-Aids.
Place items or complete kits in the collection box located in the community room.
Fundraisers for the Nigeria Trip
Global Missions Task Force is planning several fundraisers to help send our First Lutheran representatives to Nigeria. We appreciate your continued support by volunteering, financial support and prayer.
Small farmers, big thanks!
On behalf of all the small farmers in the Equal Exchange Program we want to extend a “Big Thank You” for all your support in 2009.
Our purchases for the year were $2,685.55. This includes all of the items we purchased to support our Habitat House project which was to serve coffee every morning for ten weeks to the workers at the house that was built across from the church. This amounted to about 3,000 cups of coffee and lemonade.
We also received a grant from Lutheran World Relief and Habitat for Humanity for our ground breaking ceremony. Because we had to celebrate inside instead of in the parking lot our turn out was not what we had hoped for but was quite a bit more than Habit or Thrivent financial had seen at this kind of celebration. The food that was left over was sent down to Caring and Sharing hands, plus we gave one and one half cases of coffee to the church for use in the kitchen for fellowship events.
Also in 2009, we started serving Equal Exchange coffee on Sunday mornings between services and in our church kitchen for community events.
A big plus this year was all of the baskets we sold for the holidays. Please remember us if you need a hostess gift for any occasion, Valentine’s Day, St. Patrick’s Day, May Day, birthday, anniversary or just because.
Thanks again for being so supportive.
