Ministry is about partnership. It is the collective answer of the people of God to a calling to serve and share our gifts for the people and creation of God. Now and then, someone special comes along who quietly does the work of God, behind the scenes and often without recognition, and makes the work of the kingdom a little easier for the rest of us. Such a person is Linda Rasmussen, long-serving secretary for First Lutheran of Crystal.
Linda has announced that she is retiring as of the end of May. Her years of service to all of us here, and to the greater church, have made our servanthood a more pleasant and easier task. In thanksgiving for her years of work and friendship a gala celebration and reception will be held at the church on Sunday, May 31 following the morning 9:30 a.m. Pentecost worship. We will have a potluck meal and take some time to share some stories and some laughter with Linda and her family.
Personal notes and thank-you cards may be sent to the church office before the end of the month or brought to the celebration.
Such a change in such a vital position will mean we begin the search for a new secretary. A new job description is being drawn up in early May and applications for the new position will be accepted once it is posted and advertised in area church publications. We fully intend to have the position filled as of June 1. Any questions about the process may be directed to Pastor Dave at the church office.
We thank God for all that Linda is and all she has done to further the kingdom of God here. We are all grateful for Linda’s partnership in the gospel from her first day here until her last.
In Christ,
Pastor Dave
A TIME TO LAUGH, A TIME TO CRY
Our church secretary says goodbye
My deepest thanks go out to all of the members of First Lutheran Church for making me a part of your family for so many years. I am honored to have shared with you the momentous occasions as well the daily events of your lives. As I write this, I am looking forward to our final gathering together on Pentecost Sunday. It will be a time to laugh and a time to cry.
My decision to retire was not easily made. I truly enjoy coming to work every day and hope I have made a difference in doing so. But in the end, it was the desire to spend time with my family that brought me to this fond farewell.
I will miss you all. Some of you have told me you will miss my laughter. It was easy to laugh because you gave me cause for joy. Some of you have said you will miss my sympathetic ear. It was easy to be concerned because I truly care for you. Some of you have said you will miss my recollection for details. It was easy to recall obscure facts, because I am the winner of every Trivial Pursuit game I ever played!
I’ll still be around at times. I plan to help our new Sunday School superintendent, Jennifer Hernandez, incorporate a new Sunday School curriculum, called ‘Spark’, for the fall program. I already have Sunday, August 23 on my calendar to come enjoy the music of Jonathon Rundman at worship and then come to the neighborhood picnic being planned by the Church Life and Growth team for the afternoon. And I put my address on the mailing list to get the monthly newsletter so I continue to be in the loop about the exciting events that are sure to be in your future.
God’s love and peace be with you all.
Your faithful servant,
Linda Rasmussen
